A Pattern is a video essay in the making since June 2014 from a configuration of notes, sounds, and images exploring some of the materialities synonymous with different parts of Manhattan and, in particular, the Garment District around 42nd Street and Times Square.
A Pattern began as an anonymous video-making project in 2001. The project collected and edited video shots submitted in response to a site-specific call, which were later screened at the site of the original call. Screenings included Panora in Malmö 2002 and Lux Open in London 2003.
The screening at the Goethe-Institut Wyoming Building is followed by a conversation between the maker of A Pattern and artist Katrin Mayer about their work and particular interest in New York’s garment districts.
