Dec 9, 2018

Nermeen Arastu, Alisha Ali, Adelita Husni Bey will present recent research on the intersection between law, oppression and trauma, exploring the paradoxes and contradictions inherent in the ally relation and asking: is the ally relation sufficient? what does standing ‘with’ and not ‘next to’ look like? am I a tool of the institution or am I using the institution as a tool? What can be done with/ in / through institutions historically rooted in ordering, governing and othering?

The talk will be opened by a poetry reading by Christhian Diaz titled ‘Puerto Rican Obituary: a poem from 1967 that makes me think about my mother.’
